A State Distillation Protocol to Implement Arbitrary Single-qubit Rotations

چکیده
An important task required to build a scalable, fault-tolerant quantum computer is to efficiently represent an arbitrary single-qubit rotation by fault-tolerant quantum operations. Traditionally, the method for decomposing a single-qubit unitary into a discrete set of gates is Solovay-Kitaev decomposition, which in practice produces a sequence of depth O(log(1/ )), where c ∼ 3.97 is the state-of-the-art. The proven lower bound is c = 1, however an efficient algorithm that saturates this bound is unknown. In this paper, we present an alternative to Solovay-Kitaev decomposition employing state distillation techniques which reduces c to between 1.12 and 2.27, depending on the setting. For a given single-qubit rotation, our protocol significantly lowers the length of the approximating sequence and the number of required resource states (ancillary qubits). In addition, our protocol is robust to noise in the resource states.

Distillation of Non-Stabilizer States for Universal Quantum Computation
Magic state distillation is a fundamental technique for realizing fault-tolerant universal quantum computing, and produces high-fidelity Clifford eigenstates, called magic states, which can be used to implement the non-Clifford π/8 gate. We propose an efficient protocol for distilling other non-stabilizer states that requires only Clifford operations, measurement, and magic states. One critical...
متن کاملResource comparison of two surface code implementations of small angle Z rotations
Fault-tolerant Z rotations by π/2 are important as they arise in numerous quantum algorithms, most notably those involving quantum Fourier transforms. We describe surface code implementations of two recently described methods of efficiently constructing these rotations. One method uses state distillation to get low-error (|0〉 + e k |1〉)/ √ 2 states, with each distillation level requiring 2−1 in...
متن کاملDistillation protocols for Fourier states in quantum computing
Fourier states are multi-qubit registers that facilitate phase rotations in fault-tolerant quantum computing. We propose distillation protocols for constructing the fundamental, n-qubit Fourier state with error O(2) at a cost of O(n logn) Toffoli gates and Clifford gates, or any arbitrary Fourier state using O(n) gates. We analyze these protocols with methods from digital signal processing. The...
متن کاملQutrit Magic State Distillation
Magic state distillation (MSD) is a purification protocol that plays a central role in fault tolerant quantum computation. Repeated iteration of the steps of a MSD protocol generates pure single non-stabilizer states, or magic states, from multiple copies of a mixed resource state using stabilizer operations only. Thus mixed resource states promote the stabilizer operations to full universality...
متن کاملStringy Black Holes and the Geometry of Entanglement
Abstract Recently striking multiple relations have been found between pure state 2 and 3-qubit entanglement and extremal black holes in string theory. Here we add further mathematical similarities which can be both useful in string and quantum information theory. In particular we show that finding the frozen values of the moduli in the calculation of the macroscopic black hole entropy in the ST...
